Here at Got Your Six Dispensary, we’ve reaffirmed our commitment to our country’s many veterans by making a substantial donation to the American Legion, a distinguished organization dedicated to helping those who have served through its much-needed programs and valuable services.

What is the American Legion?

The American Legion is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting our U.S. military veterans, service members, and their families. Founded in 1919 by congress following WWI, it is one of the largest veterans’ organizations in the United States. This important non-profit organization has a mission to advocate for veterans’ rights, deliver the necessary community support, and promote patriotism, which has been the foundation of our country since its founding.

The Importance of American Legion Donations

Donations to the American Legion carry significant importance as they directly support essential programs focused on veterans’ well-being. Community giving to organizations like the American Legion, helps to enhance our veteran’s access to vital healthcare, housing, and community support networks.

Providing American Legion donations, strengthens its ability to assist the thousands of veterans in every community across the country who have bravely served. Such vital support ensures that veterans—who have sacrificed greatly for their country—receive the care, appreciation, recognition, and opportunities they rightfully deserve.

How Does the American Legion Support Veterans?

The American Legion passionately champions the unique requirements of every generation of veterans, service members, and their families who continue to protect our nation. A major initiative for the American Legion today, is the destigmatizing of mental health support, providing peer-to-peer resources, and empowering everyone to “Be The One” in the fight to prevent veterean suicide, the number one issue within the veteran community. Here are just some ways the American Legion supports veterans through the resources provided by community giving.

Veteran Advocacy

The American Legion continually advocates for key pro-veteran legislation that can have profound effects on the well-being and success of veterans within our community. Some vital legislation examples include:

  • Service Dogs Assisting Veterans (SAVES) Act—This legislation ensures injured service personnel and veterans with mental health conditions are paired with a service dog that can help them with daily living and alert them to medical emergencies.
  • Love Lives On Act—This Act addresses the current predicament of Gold Star spouses who must choose between finding love and remarriage before they reach age of 55, which would cause them to lose critical benefits, or remaining single to retain the much-needed benefits they are entitled to.

Providing Veteran Services

The American Legion helps veterans transition successfully into civilian life by providing them valuable resources and information. Some examples include:

  • Veteran Benefits—The American Legion provides guidance to veterans and their families, helping them navigate and apply for available benefits.
  • Finding Veteran Service Officers—Service Officers help veterans navigate complicated VA Disability applications and aid them in finding work, resources, education etc. at no cost.
